In September the Federal Trade Commission warned that scammers are copying car dealership websites, and the detail worth noticing is how good the copies are. Logos, vehicle listings, photographs, a described buying process, a return policy, glowing customer testimonials, all of it cloned, and the FTC notes the work is often done with AI.

So the old advice, look for typos and bad design, has quietly stopped working. What has not stopped working is the payment method, because that is the one part of the scam that cannot be faked.

They hold exclusive U.S. and Canada distribution rights to Juan Valdez, Colombia’s most iconic coffee brand. Their premium coffee is now on 3,000+ major retail shelves at locations like Target and Walgreens, while partnerships have been secured with the Chicago Cubs, LA Rams, U.S. National Parks, Carnival Cruise, and more.

But they’re not stopping there.

To meet their skyrocketing demand, GCC’s just announced a new processing facility in Colombia to fuel the next stage of growth. It’s great timing, too. They’re projecting to double their production volume to 5.1 million pounds of coffee this year.

They’ve already raised $120M+ from over 2,000 investors. This is your chance to join them. ### Look Behind the Curtain

The dealership version runs like this. A hard-to-find vehicle appears at a price that is good without being absurd. The site looks legitimate because it is a near-copy of a real one. The buyer is walked through a plausible process and at the end is asked for payment up front, typically by wire transfer and only by wire transfer. The car does not exist and never did.

There is a larger version aimed at ordinary retail. Security researchers published findings this month on a network of roughly a hundred and nineteen thousand near-identical fake shops on shared infrastructure, most still live when the research came out. Those harvest card details rather than take a wire.

How anyone lands on a cloned site is the piece most people get wrong. It is usually not a random link. The FBI has warned since 2022 that criminals buy search advertising using domains nearly identical to real businesses, so the fake appears above the real one with little to distinguish it. A more recent advisory describes systems routing victims in through phishing messages, manipulated search results and compromised websites.

So a result at the top of a search is not automatically the business you searched for, and a site reached that way carries no more authority than one reached from an email. The FTC reported that Americans lost about sixteen billion dollars to fraud in 2025, its highest recorded figure and a quarter more than the year before.

### The Capability Multiplier

The scam has one structural weakness and it is always in the same place. A convincing website is cheap to produce. An irreversible payment is the whole point of the exercise, so it cannot be negotiated away.

That gives you a test that does not require judging the site at all. Ask to pay by credit card. A real dealership, a real retailer, a real anything takes cards, because that is how businesses get paid. Insistence on a wire transfer and only a wire transfer is not a payment preference. It is the reason the scheme exists.

It matters because of what the FTC says about recovery. A credit card gives you federal protection against unauthorized charges and a chargeback route through your issuer. A bank transfer can sometimes be stopped if you move fast. A wire is difficult to reverse, and cryptocurrency does not carry the protections cards do. That order is how much of your money you can expect to see again.

The second lever routes around the site entirely. Every vehicle manufacturer publishes an official dealer locator. If the dealership is real, it is in there. Look it up, then call the number the manufacturer lists, not the one printed on the page you found. A cloned site controls everything on itself, including its contact details, and nothing on the manufacturer's.

Third, the FTC's advice to go and see the car and the premises is worth taking literally. A remote purchase of a vehicle you have never seen, from a business you have never visited, paid by wire, is three risks stacked. If distance makes a visit impossible, a mobile inspection service will go and look for you.

### The Sovereign Action

Five minutes of checks, applied before money moves.

\- Offer to pay by credit card. If wire transfer is the only option accepted, stop there. That answer settles it without any judgment about the website.

\- Verify the business through the manufacturer's official dealer locator, then call the number listed there.

\- Reach the site by typing the address rather than clicking a search advertisement. The top result is a paid slot, not an endorsement.

\- Insist on seeing the vehicle and the premises, or hire a mobile inspection service. Refusal is the answer.

\- If you have already paid, contact the payment provider immediately and report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. Speed matters most with transfers and wires, where the only chance is catching it before it clears.
